When royal fans across the globe watched Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex tie the knot in May 2018, no one would have ever dreamed things would pan out as they have. After two years in the royal spotlight and following the birth of their son, Archie Harrison, the pair made the shocking decision to leave the royal family.
Though it was clear that the British press and public never truly embraced the Duchess of Sussex, no one saw Megxit coming. It may have been an unprecedented move but Meghan and Prince Harry are already shaping their new life in the duchess’ hometown of Los Angeles.
In fact, looking at all that Meghan endured during her time as a senior working royal, it appears that Megxit saved the Sussexes’ marriage.
Meghan Markle sacrificed a lot to be with Prince Harry
From the moment, Meghan was linked to Prince Harry, the press and public began digging into her life, trying to turn up anything that was unsavory. She was the subject of racist and sexist remarks with the people calling her ugly names like “gold digger” and “Me Gain.” However, the Suits alum sacrificed a lot more than her privacy to be with the prince.
“It is easy to see that Meghan is not looking for Harry or this marriage to complete her,” relationship expert Sami Wunder told Express. “She may have given up her Hollywood career due to royal protocol but the woman continues to keep herself busy and involved with several charitable interests and even flew all the way to New York to enjoy her baby shower with her own set of personal friends. She is not going to be the woman that looks up to Prince Harry to fulfill each and every one of her needs, as many first time married women would do.”
Still, royal life was much more challenging on Meghan than she expected.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were unhappy in the British royal family
Things were more than a bit challenging for the Duchess of Sussex in the royal family. In fact, things reportedly got so bad that she was convinced there was a conspiracy against her.
“Meghan was convinced there was a conspiracy against her and so she basically put herself in isolation when they moved to Frogmore,” a source told royal expert Katie Nicholl for The Times. “She also felt like an outsider from the start, this wasn’t the life she was used to and she wanted out. One of the things Meghan struggled with was not earning an income. She has always worked and I think she felt unfulfilled. Having financial freedom was a big part of them wanting to leave.”
Prince Harry, who had grown up in the royal family, had also been struggling for some time. “The truth is Harry had been unhappy for a long, long time,” the source told The Sun. “He wanted to move in the direction that they did and had been considering it for more than a year. Meghan supported Harry’s decision. But there was more than one occasion where she asked him if he was certain it was what he wanted. And she always made it clear she would support him in whatever he did.”
Megxit saved Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s marriage
Despite everything that has transpired between them, the royal family, and the British press and public, Megxit saved Meghan and Prince Harry’s marriage.
“Two years in, they’re still very much in love,” royal expert Kate Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight. “So much has happened for Meghan and Harry, but I’m told by a source very close to them that all of the experiences, the challenges, the obstacles of 2019 and 2020, have really made them even closer. They’ve always been a great team and a partnership and you’ve seen that when you’re with them”. But they were described as hand in glove, and that idea that really one just fits the other beautifully and they complement each other, they work well together, and I think looking back on what’s clearly been a challenging and a testing year, the one thing that just hasn’t faltered is their commitment to each other and their love for one another. They’ve done this together as a couple and I think it’s important to remember that.”
Prince Harry’s LA Move and COVID-19 Healed His Relationship With Prince William
Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex are settling into their new hometown of LA, getting in a lot of family bonding time during the quarantine. Prince Harry could likely be feeling like a fish out of water, surrounded by big-name celebrities and all of Hollywood’s elite, but in the coming months, the former senior royal will likely be making some big moves. There have been some reports that state Prince Harry has been depressed while in California. However, a brand-new story reveals that he has actually been able to make amends with an unlikely party — his estranged brother: Prince William.

When Meghan first joined the royal family, tabloids rushed to report that the Duchess of Sussex didn’t get along with her new sister-in-law, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. However, as the months wore on, royal fans began noticing signs of tension between a different pair of royals — Prince William and his younger brother, Prince Harry.
According to reports, the feud first started in 2016, when Prince William voiced his concerns to Prince Harry that the redheaded royal was moving too quickly in his romance with Meghan. Needless to say, Prince Harry ignored Prince William’s advice to slow down, and married Meghan in May 2018.
It seems as though their feud continued to get worse over the next year, with the siblings separating their residences. Prince Harry even separated from the joint charity that he and Prince William had shared. In late 2019, Prince Harry even confirmed their falling-out in an interview with Tom Brady, admitting that they just had differing viewpoints on some things.
In January 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan shocked the world when they announced that they would be retiring as senior royals and intended to pursue their own business ventures and make their own income. Many royal fans wondered where the couple would settle down, whether in Canada or the United Kingdom. Prince Harry and Meghan made yet another surprising move when they moved to LA only a couple of months after their big announcement.
The couple didn’t announce their reasons for choosing California as a new home base, however, many have theorized that LA provides the perfect spot for Meghan’s reintroduction into the entertainment industry. This theory has been given some weight in light of a new documentary by Disney, which is narrated by Meghan. In addition, they now live close to the duchess’ mother, Doria Ragland.
Prince Harry hasn’t been as visible as Meghan since moving to LA, and many reports claim that he has been struggling in his new environment. COVID-19 has forced him to stay indoors more than ever, and the pandemic became personal to him earlier in the spring, when his father, Prince Charles, was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus.
It could have been his father’s diagnosis, along with his lingering loneliness, that provided the impetus for him to reconnect with his older brother.
“There have been clearly some quite major rifts in that relationship, but things have got better and I know that William and Harry are in touch on the phone,” royal expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight in May. “They have done video calls together, they have done a lot of family birthdays and I think with Prince Charles not being well, that really forced the brothers to pick up the phone and get back in touch.”
According to a new report, Prince Harry has been “leaning on” Prince William as he tries to adjust to his new LA lifestyle. US Weekly reports, citing an insider: “Moving to a completely different country is never easy for anyone, including Harry. And he wasn’t expecting to be faced with so many obstacles.”
The report states that Prince William understands how Prince Harry is struggling and has advised his brother to eventually move elsewhere, once things settle down. “William’s advised Harry to return to London or move elsewhere, somewhere safer,” the insider says. “He’s concerned about his brother’s well-being and safety.”
In addition, the report reveals that Prince Harry is talking regularly with his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. The monarch has reportedly “been reaching out to Harry to see if he’s OK and has offered to help out if needed.”
It certainly seems as though the pandemic has had some positive side effects for the royal, even if he has had to go through some particularly trying times to get to that better place.
“I think there is a sense of relief on both sides that this high drama is now a thing of the past,” Nicholl said in the aforementioned Entertainment Tonight interview. “The Sussexes are free to get on with their new lives [and] the Cambridges can get back to their old lives without all the upset and drama that was clearly a big deal behind the scenes.
