While a pregnant Meghan Markle couldn’t make it to Prince Philip’s funeral, a close friend confirms her grief over losing “a family member.”
“Although Meghan isn’t here, she is of course supporting Harry….her mind is very much on the situation over here,” reported Royal’s expert and friend of Markle’s, Omid Scobie, as a correspondent for ABC.
“We know that she’s supporting Harry in this very difficult week for him, but she’ll also be sad because this is also the loss of a family member for her. She grew very close to the queen and Prince Philip over the recent years. It was probably her strongest relationship within the family and those relations then get smaller this week.
“It’ll be a sad day for her.”
The Duchess of Sussex, 39, also penned a handwritten note to The Duke of Edinburgh to be left alongside a floral wreath presented in honor of the Royal Marines, The Sun reports.
Markle, who is due to give birth to the couple’s second child, a girl, in early summer, stayed home in California on her doctor’s advice. We’re told husband Harry will be hurrying back to be reunited with Markle and their young son, Archie.
Sources also told us that Markle wanted desperately to join her husband and made every effort to get the trip signed off on. Her physicians, however, refused to give her the OK.
