Meghan Markle’s father Thomas Markle is still giving interviews basically every weekend. But his continual bashing of the royal family hasn’t damaged Meghan’s relationship with the most important royal of all, the Queen. While outlets previously reported that Queen Elizabeth would be less than amused by Thomas—a source close to Prince Charles told The Sunday Times that “I suspect the Queen will be rolling her eyes and thinking: crikey, what is going to become of all this?”—Us Weekly has the first definitive reporting on her actual gentler reaction.
“What may surprise some is just how supportive Her Majesty has been during the problems Meghan has faced with her family,” a “Buckingham Palace insider” told the outlet. “Meghan is in a tough place, and the queen knows it’s completely out of Meghan’s hands. She has only sympathy for what’s been a difficult and distressing situation for her.” Of their relationship, the palace source said, “There’s a warmth between the two that’s genuine and loving.”
That started back when Harry arranged the Queen and Meghan’s very first meeting. The Queen “became fond of Meghan” then, a second source said. “Not just because she’s the charming woman who brought happiness into her grandson’s life, but also because she quickly demonstrated that she’s intelligent, polite and keen to learn.”
At this point, Meghan is “broken” by the situation with her father, a source close to Meghan told Us. “There’s no way she can have a relationship with him or even reach out to him to stop him from speaking. She knows he’ll record the conversation and sell it. She has high anxiety wondering if this will go on forever.”
